The Suffolk University Board of Trustees approved new Bylaws of the University at its April 22, 2016, meeting. The board approved further revisions at its June 23, 2017, meeting based on the experience of the previous year and in alignment with practices of good governance. The most recent amendments included a change in the number of authorized charter trustees, from between 22 and 31 to between 17 and 32; a clarification of the scope of the Executive Committee’s authority between meetings of the board; and expansion of the authority of the Audit, Compliance, and Risk Management Committee to include oversight of any matters requiring investigation or review by the board. A provision was added for the calling of emergency meetings of the board. And oversight of honorary degrees was shifted from the Advancement and Development Committee to the Academic Affairs Committee.
